The Horticultural Producers’ Co-operative Marketing and Processing Society Ltd. to sell millets in city outlets soon

,

Soon, you will be able to buy millets from Hopcoms shops and stalls as the government is considering a proposal from officials to provide funds and infrastructure for such an arrangement.

Inaugurating the grape and watermelon mela here on Monday, Agriculture Minister Shivashankara Reddy promised to clear a proposal submitted by the officials to facilitate easy buying of millets.

“A discussion will be held with officials very soon. The Hopcoms building at the Hudson Circle is being demolished. A plan has been prepared to replace it with a structure for the agriculture department at an estimated cost of Rs 20 crore. The ground floor of the new building will have enough space for Hopcoms sales,” he said.

Reddy said there was a need to study which districts do not have Hopcoms shops and make efforts to open the same.

MLA Ramalinga Reddy said the government should provide funds for opening new Hopcoms shops.

The civic body will fund one such shop in the city, he said. As part of the mela, the shops are selling grapes and melons at a 10% discount.

The prices of the fruits, as well as the vegetable, will be available on www.hopcoms.kar.nic.in.
