Freshquo, A social initiative by the Hare Krishna Movement launched ready to eat millet bars developed in associations with ICRISAT.

Hyderabad: Now kill the hunger pangs with some nutritious ready to eat and ready to cook millet products from the house of Hare Krishna.

With a novel initiative of helping farmers, offering nutritious food and saving the environment, Hare Krishna Movement is coming up with millets namkeens, crisps and other products.
These products will be launched shortly in the market under the brand name of Freshquo.

Under a pilot project, the Hare Krishna Movement is offering a few products including namkeens made of barnyard millets, pearl millets and moringa ajwain, foxtail and finger millets. In the crisps category, a couple of products including chilli sticks made of different millets and other ingredients are on offer.

Currently, these products are being offered at the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Golden temple, Banjara Hills and through an online grocery store.

The objective behind launching a social movement through Freshquo was to serve three purposes. On one hand, farmers have been facing distress in producing regular food grains and craze for junk food has led to an upsurge in health related issues. More importantly, conventional grain crops consume lot of water and need huge investments, explains Hare Krishna Movement Hyderabad, president, Satya Gaura Chandra Dasa.

Given the scenario, Hare Krishna Golden Temple is coming up with Freshquo millets products. Farmers are assured of orders, people get to eat healthy and nutritious food and there is no pressure on the environment as well, he says.

All the products have been developed after thorough research involving experts from ICRISAT. The products are also being tested at private labs and they are hundred per cent gluten-free, made with single use oil and home-made masalas, he said.

“We have distributed sample packs to few people and the response has been very encouraging. Very soon the products will be formally launched into the market,” said Satya Gaura Chandra Dasa.
