Increasing the area under millets cultivation in Vizianagaram was the focus at the Kisan Mela organized at the Millets Research Station at Gajula Rega on 18 Oct 2019.

A large number of farmers from different parts of the district participated in the fair which began on October 19 and was inaugrated by the vice-chancellor of Acharya N Ranga Agricultural University, Professor V Damodar Naidu.

They are being educated on the advantages of growing millets. TSS Patro, director of the institute said, “Over the last six year the acreage has gone up from 800 acres to 2000 acres, however, many experts believe it can go further up”

“Apart from millet cultivation, farmers should adopt inter-cropping techniques to earn more. A multiple cropping pattern should be developed to ensure crop diversity for greater security to farmers”
