SUMMARY:Funding Opportunities for Start-ups/SMEs for Indigenous Technology Commercialization
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating Development Commercialization of Indigenous Technology: Inviting Application for National Awards 2020 \nTechnology Development Board (TDB) is a statutory body of Department of Science & Technology (DST). As part of National Technology Day celebration on 11th May every year\, TDB presents following three Awards\, to industrial concerns who have successfully commercialized an indigenous technology. \nThe Technology Development Board (TDB)\, Department of Science and Technology\, Government of India provides financial assistance to Indian industrial concerns\, start-ups and SMEs attempting development and commercial application of indigenous technology\, or adapting imported technology to wider domestic applications. The objectives are to promote new ideas from small enterprises even at the risk of failures\, encourage production of competitive consumer products\, motivate industries and R&D institutions for product innovation\, develop socially relevant and profitable technologies\, identify and act in areas requiring strategic interventions and Invest in core technological strengths to enable Indian industry to stand-up to the competitive pressure and become a global player. \nOne (1) cash award of Rs. 25 lakh and a trophy to an industrial concern which has successfully developed & commercialized an indigenous technology. However\, in case the technology developer and commercializing organizations are different each one would be eligible for cash prize and a trophy. \nThree (3) cash awards of Rs. 15 lakh and a trophy each to a Micro\, Small and Medium Enterprise that have successfully commercialized a technology product based on indigenous technology. \nA cash award of Rs. 15 lakhs which was introduced for the first time for the F.Y. 2017-18 i.e. National Technology Start-up Award for promising new technology with potential for commercialization. \nPublishing of advertisement\, in National Daily Newspapers\, for inviting applications for awards is a yearly affair for TDB and as per practice in the past; it is advertised in the month of November every year. SUMMARY:Climate Resilience RFA: Funding Opportunities
DESCRIPTION:Request For Application\n\nThe Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research (FFAR) is seeking applications through our Next Generation Crops Challenge Area. FFAR builds unique partnerships to support innovative and actionable science addressing today’s food and agriculture challenges. We are seeking innovative research focused on improving climate resilience in crops to provide the critical solutions necessary to enhance the sustainable production of nutritious food for a growing global population. For 2021\, FFAR anticipates funding up to two meritorious applications. \n\n\nWhat We Are Looking For\n\nFFAR aims to support research that addresses the challenge of rising global temperatures by increasing the basal or acquired thermotolerance of crop plants. In accordance with the above intent\, the successful research will be applicable to one or more of the following crop species: maize\, rice\, sorghum\, millet\, wheat\, sweet potato\, cassava\, banana\, yam\, common bean\, cowpea\, chickpea or groundnut. We will also consider research in other plants\, if applicants adequately describe how the proposed research would be transferable to the preferred crops. Potential solutions only applicable to agricultural systems in high-income countries or involving domestication of new crops will not be considered. \nFFAR would consider: \n\nApproaches that quantify the specific features of climate-driven temperature change that will most impact crop plants.  This may include development or improvement of biophysical crop simulation/predictive models;\nSolutions that address higher temperatures in day and/or night periods;\nSolutions that address increased temperature variability;\nSolutions that could be applied in crop genetic improvement programs;\nSolutions that address the challenges of phenotyping for variation in thermotolerance\, including the impact of acclimation;\nSolutions that address temperature response in crop plants\, including molecular\, enzymatic\, physiological\, and/or genetic approaches;\nSolutions developed in model plant systems that can be applied to one or more of the above crops;\nSolutions that can be reasonably applied in agricultural systems in low income countries.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEligibility\n\nThe Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research welcomes applications from institutions of Higher Education\, non-profit and for-profit organizations\, government-affiliated researchers\, and domestic and international organizations. \nAny individual(s) with the skills\, knowledge\, and resources necessary to carry out the proposed research as Program Director(s)/Principal Investigator(s) is invited to work with his/her organization to develop an application for support. \n\n\n\n\n\nAward Information\n\nProject duration: Up to 60 months  \nProposal funding range: $250\,000 – $1\,000\,000  \nMatching Funds are not required for this program.   \nReasonable budgets clearly work in favor of the applicant. Budgets that are not commensurate with proposed work or poorly justified will likely have a negative impact on the overall evaluation of the application. \n\n\n\nThe number of projects selected for funding may vary.\nIndirect Expenses: A maximum of 10% of the total award may be used for indirect costs. FFAR’s indirect cost allotment is not an indirect cost rate applied to the total modified direct costs but instead it is an overall allotment from the Total Funds Request\, also known as the Total Project Costs\, to be used for IDC. This means 90% of the total funds requested must go directly to the proposed research. For example\, if you request the maximum\, the total direct cost available to the project is $750\,000⁄1. 1 = $682\,000. Indirect costs cannot exceed 10% of the total.\nIndirect costs cannot exceed 10% of the total budget (FFAR contribution+ grantee’s matching funding\, if any). Please carefully review our IDC policy in the Instructions Tab of the budget template.\nEstimated Number of Awards: To be determined. The number of awards depends on the quality and the total funds requested of successful application. The number of applications funded is left totally to the discretion of FFAR including choosing not to fund any applications under this opportunity.\n\n\n\nAnticipated Award Date: February 2021 \n\n\n\nMore information @ https://foundationfar.org/climate-resilience-rfa/

SUMMARY:IFNH 3RD ANNUAL FORUM 15TH DECEMBER 2020: ADDRESSING FOOD SYSTEM CHALLENGES: MAKING INTER-DISCIPLINARITY WORK
DESCRIPTION:The importance of sustainable and resilient food supply systems is widely acknowledged. Providing food and nutrient security to a growing global population and ensuring the livelihoods of millions of people working along the food supply chain\, whilst safeguarding the environment for future generations has never been more important. The Covid-19 pandemic has further emphasised the imperative for robust food systems\, capable of responding to shocks and disruptions. \nFood systems are complex\, with inter-relationships between agriculture\, the environment and consumers. Therefore\, the approach to food systems and food systems challenges needs to be holistic and interdisciplinary\, drawing upon natural\, social and physical sciences. The IFNH is based on the recognition of the value of interdisciplinary approaches to systems-wide challenges and our 3rd Annual Forum provides an opportunity to learn about the application of such approaches in practice in different parts of the world. \nThe event is free to attend and for more information on the event and to register your attendance please Click Here. Please register your attendance by Monday 7th December 2020. Follow the links to see the programme and speaker’s biography.
