SUMMARY:Innovation Challenge - 2020 by giz
DESCRIPTION:The global community has set itself the goal to end hunger by 2030. To achieve this\, agriculture must become more efficient and sustainable along the entire value chain. Current approaches are not sufficient to achieve this. Practicable and regionally adapted innovations are needed. The Agricultural Innovation Fund aims to promote these. Apply now with your idea for Africa and South East Asia! \nWhat kind of innovations are we looking for?\nWe are looking for innovative ideas that make the agricultural and food sector more efficient and sustainable along the entire value chain in our partner countries. The Innovation Challenge has three main focuses: \nMechanization\nDigitalization\nRenewable Energies \nIn these areas we are looking for innovations that offer new approaches that lead to positive changes and from which many people in our partner countries will benefit. This could be for instance a new kind of harvester\, a new process design or a new way of cooperating with one another. \nWho can apply?\nWe are looking for start-ups and small businesses from our participating partner countries in Africa and South East Asia. The innovation must be suitable for our partner countries. SUMMARY:India Agribusiness Education Awards 2020
DESCRIPTION:India’s agriculture has now evolved into a multi-tiered\, multi player\, global enterprise with an array of\nstakeholders perfectly lined up in a value chain to deliver products on a massive scale. Present day\nagricultural enterprise stretches beyond the farm to encompass many entities that operate at different\nlinks in the production\, logistics\, processing\, trade and distribution chain of food and agri-products. The\nlarge scale\, wide diversity and range of stakeholders in the value chain makes agribusiness among the\nlargest business sectors globally. Recent estimates place the size of the global agriculture at US$ 5 trillion.\nFor India\, it is a matter of livelihood for masses and economic development of the country. India needs the\nsupport of agribusiness professionals educated in the nuances of agriculture trade and practices to\npower the growth of farm sector. In view of economic liberalization and coming in of WTO\, it is\nimportant to generate globally competitive human resource which would help in achieving higher\nproductivity and production through generation and transfer of technologies as well as processing and\nvalue addition\, food safety and quality\, information technology\, etc. This has necessitated the\ndevelopment of human resource which would have skills and expertise to handle the agri marketing\,\ndistribution\, products\, technologies but also the trade and export of agricultural produce.\nImproving quality of agribusiness education holds the key to propelling not only creating better job\nprospects and entrepreneurship but also the growth of the industry as well as the agriculture sector as a\nwhole. The attempts made by India in improving agribusiness education have been the result of\nconcerted efforts of many individuals\, institutions and policy makers. As a result over 50 ABM colleges\nunder SAUs\, 15 plus national level institutes and almost equal number private sector universities are today\noffering globally competitive courses in agribusiness. Some of them like IIM Ahmedabad\, IIM Lucknow\,\nIRMA\, MANAGE\, IIPM\, IIFM\, NIAM etc. have made their mark at the national and international level too.\nSuch role models need to be admired and recognized. \nAgriculture Today Group as the media and policy catalyst has always been on the forefront in providing\ninformation\, inuencing policies\, creating business networks and recognizing performers. The institution\nof India Agribusiness Education Awards is a small step in this direction\, through which we will make an\neffort to rank and award agribusiness education institutes\, based on their quality of education\,\nplacement quality and other relevant parameters with the help of our very eminent jury members. \nObjectives \n\nBringing on one platform agribusiness education institutions and industry leaders to deliberate upon\nthe agribusiness challenges and possible solutions\nTo discuss the emerging trends and opportunities in the national and global agribusiness industry and\nhow to orient the management education to best cater to the needs of the industry\nFacilitating mutual learning by bringing key stakeholders of the academia coming together and\nsharing their success stories\nTo promote and strengthen agribusiness education ecosystem for greater industry coordination and\ninternational exposure for best models and practices so as facilitate faster growth of India’s\nagribusiness sector\nTo felicitate and honour the top performing agribusiness institutes and colleges on various parameters\nso as to encourage them put in their best in terms of churning out to notch agribusiness professionals\n\nFor Nomination: http://www.agriculturetoday.in/iaea/nomi_form.php \n

SUMMARY:New value chain and funding opportunities in Maharashtra state
DESCRIPTION:State of Maharashtra Agribusiness and Rural Transformation (SMART) project is just starting up and in a few months will release some competitive calls where they will fund 60%. They are keen now to engage with any SMEs for ideas that will help develop value chains\, including millet and sorghum. \nThe SMART calls (that will come out in a couple of months) include: \n1)      PP (Productive Partnerships): 1 buyer and 1 CBO (community based organization) can apply for what is needed for the CBO to match the buyer need eg a processing unit\, storage\, extension support etc. \n2)      MAP (Market Access Plan): If there is no organized buyer but there is an identified market\, SMART will provide 60% of the cost of what is needed to the CBO.\nAlso SMART will help CBO raise equity through eg a bank. SMART has also set up a Credit Guarantee Fund in case the assets of the CBO do not satisfy the Bank. \n3)      Enhanced warehouse based interventions: SMART is making decentralized storage facilities so there is more storage available at the local farmer level. \n4)      Innovative ideas: eg new technologies. Here they will fund up to 50%. \nPlease contact Jeevan Bunde\, from the SMART team\, 09049816264. http://www.smart-mh.org/en

SUMMARY:Conference on Climate Change & Agriculture: Impacts\, Resilience & Adaptations for Sustainable Food Security
DESCRIPTION:The world’s climate is rapidly changing due to global warming and will continue to be severe in the coming decades and centuries ahead\, and will pose major challenge for future agricultural scenarios to provide food and other bio-resources for the projected global 9 billion people by 2050. \nThe climate change will trigger variety of problems related to agriculture\, and will affect all four dimensions of food security: food availability\, food accessibility\, food utilization and food systems stability. Further\, will impact human health\, livelihood assets\, food production and distribution channels\, as well as changing purchasing power and market flows. Its impacts will be both short term\, resulting from more frequent and more intense extreme weather events\, and long term\, caused by changing temperatures and precipitation patterns. Food systems will also be affected through possible internal and international migration\, resource- based conflicts and civil unrest triggered by climate change and its impacts. At the same time\, it is necessary to strengthen the resilience of rural people and to help them cope with this additional threat to food security. Particularly in the agriculture sector\, climate change adaptation can go hand-in-hand with mitigation and organic farming. The conference aims at knowledge exchange on the interrelationship between climate change and food security and ways to deal with the new threats. \nTo disseminate the impacts of climate change\, relieving strategic technologies for creating sustainable agriculture and food security a two days national conference is planned by the IDC Foundation in December 2019 at India international Centre\, New Delhi. The conference sessions will include Innovative lead presentation\, summary of case studies as per sessions and full length presentations followed by publications etc. \n
