DESCRIPTION:Virtual Launch\n2020 Global Food Policy Report\nBuilding Inclusive Food Systems\nMonday July 6\, 2020\n4:30 pm – 6:00 pm IST\nNew Delhi\, India\nIFPRI’s 2020 Global Food Policy Report (GFPR) was officially launched on April 07 and highlights the critical role that inclusive food systems can play\, looking specifically at the obstacles and opportunities as well as the tools and technologies for building inclusive food systems. \nCOVID-19 is having an immense impact on our health and food systems on a global scale. In South Asia\, the pandemic has triggered the largest disruption of livelihoods in human history\, affecting over 1.7 billion people. The disruptions to supply chains\, lack of access to health and nutrition services\, and overwhelmed social protection system have led to increased food and nutrition insecurity in the region. Consequently\, the awareness and need to work towards inclusive food systems have been amplified for all countries in the region. \nIn collaboration with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the Trust for Advancement of Agricultural Sciences (TAAS) IFPRI\, South Asia is hosting a virtual launch on Monday July 6\, 2020 from 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm (IST) to present the highlights of the report in  the South Asian context. SUMMARY:Virtual launch Food\, Agriculture\, and Nutrition in India 2020: Leveraging Agriculture to Achieve Zero Hunger (FAN 2020)\,
DESCRIPTION:Virtual launch of the Tata-Cornell Institute’s new report\, Food\, Agriculture\, and Nutrition in India 2020: Leveraging Agriculture to Achieve Zero Hunger (FAN 2020)\, on Tuesday\, August 4\, from 8-9:30 a.m. EDT / 5:30-7 p.m. IST. \nFAN 2020 provides an analysis of India’s progress towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal 2—zero hunger. Using district-level data and maps\, the report highlights stark spatial differences in the extent of the hunger problem and identifies potential paths forward\, with a focus on reorienting agricultural policy away from staple grains and toward nutrient-dense fruits\, vegetables\, pulses\, and coarse grains. The report provides a detailed assessment of the prospects for improving productivity and farm incomes across India’s highly varied agroecologies and cropping systems\, emphasizing the need for continued high-level investments in agricultural infrastructure and research to sustain past gains and exploit new opportunities for growth. \nFAN 2020 is the inaugural issue in a series produced by TCI. Each report will provide periodic assessments of the food\, agriculture\, and nutrition situation in India.

SUMMARY:Climate Resilience RFA: Funding Opportunities
DESCRIPTION:Request For Application\n\nThe Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research (FFAR) is seeking applications through our Next Generation Crops Challenge Area. FFAR builds unique partnerships to support innovative and actionable science addressing today’s food and agriculture challenges. We are seeking innovative research focused on improving climate resilience in crops to provide the critical solutions necessary to enhance the sustainable production of nutritious food for a growing global population. For 2021\, FFAR anticipates funding up to two meritorious applications. \n\n\nWhat We Are Looking For\n\nFFAR aims to support research that addresses the challenge of rising global temperatures by increasing the basal or acquired thermotolerance of crop plants. In accordance with the above intent\, the successful research will be applicable to one or more of the following crop species: maize\, rice\, sorghum\, millet\, wheat\, sweet potato\, cassava\, banana\, yam\, common bean\, cowpea\, chickpea or groundnut. We will also consider research in other plants\, if applicants adequately describe how the proposed research would be transferable to the preferred crops. Potential solutions only applicable to agricultural systems in high-income countries or involving domestication of new crops will not be considered. \nFFAR would consider: \n\nApproaches that quantify the specific features of climate-driven temperature change that will most impact crop plants.  This may include development or improvement of biophysical crop simulation/predictive models;\nSolutions that address higher temperatures in day and/or night periods;\nSolutions that address increased temperature variability;\nSolutions that could be applied in crop genetic improvement programs;\nSolutions that address the challenges of phenotyping for variation in thermotolerance\, including the impact of acclimation;\nSolutions that address temperature response in crop plants\, including molecular\, enzymatic\, physiological\, and/or genetic approaches;\nSolutions developed in model plant systems that can be applied to one or more of the above crops;\nSolutions that can be reasonably applied in agricultural systems in low income countries.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEligibility\n\nThe Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research welcomes applications from institutions of Higher Education\, non-profit and for-profit organizations\, government-affiliated researchers\, and domestic and international organizations. \nAny individual(s) with the skills\, knowledge\, and resources necessary to carry out the proposed research as Program Director(s)/Principal Investigator(s) is invited to work with his/her organization to develop an application for support. \n\n\n\n\n\nAward Information\n\nProject duration: Up to 60 months  \nProposal funding range: $250\,000 – $1\,000\,000  \nMatching Funds are not required for this program.   \nReasonable budgets clearly work in favor of the applicant. Budgets that are not commensurate with proposed work or poorly justified will likely have a negative impact on the overall evaluation of the application. \n\n\n\nThe number of projects selected for funding may vary.\nIndirect Expenses: A maximum of 10% of the total award may be used for indirect costs. FFAR’s indirect cost allotment is not an indirect cost rate applied to the total modified direct costs but instead it is an overall allotment from the Total Funds Request\, also known as the Total Project Costs\, to be used for IDC. This means 90% of the total funds requested must go directly to the proposed research. For example\, if you request the maximum\, the total direct cost available to the project is $750\,000⁄1. 1 = $682\,000. Indirect costs cannot exceed 10% of the total.\nIndirect costs cannot exceed 10% of the total budget (FFAR contribution+ grantee’s matching funding\, if any). Please carefully review our IDC policy in the Instructions Tab of the budget template.\nEstimated Number of Awards: To be determined. The number of awards depends on the quality and the total funds requested of successful application. The number of applications funded is left totally to the discretion of FFAR including choosing not to fund any applications under this opportunity.\n\n\n\nAnticipated Award Date: February 2021 \n\n\n\nMore information @ https://foundationfar.org/climate-resilience-rfa/

SUMMARY:IFNH 3RD ANNUAL FORUM 15TH DECEMBER 2020: ADDRESSING FOOD SYSTEM CHALLENGES: MAKING INTER-DISCIPLINARITY WORK
DESCRIPTION:The importance of sustainable and resilient food supply systems is widely acknowledged. Providing food and nutrient security to a growing global population and ensuring the livelihoods of millions of people working along the food supply chain\, whilst safeguarding the environment for future generations has never been more important. The Covid-19 pandemic has further emphasised the imperative for robust food systems\, capable of responding to shocks and disruptions. \nFood systems are complex\, with inter-relationships between agriculture\, the environment and consumers. Therefore\, the approach to food systems and food systems challenges needs to be holistic and interdisciplinary\, drawing upon natural\, social and physical sciences. The IFNH is based on the recognition of the value of interdisciplinary approaches to systems-wide challenges and our 3rd Annual Forum provides an opportunity to learn about the application of such approaches in practice in different parts of the world. \nThe event is free to attend and for more information on the event and to register your attendance please Click Here. Please register your attendance by Monday 7th December 2020. Follow the links to see the programme and speaker’s biography.
